The historic Cathedral of St. John the Divine is located in New York City on the Upper West Side. The grounds include an elementary school, and three peacocks: Jim, Harry, and Phil, named after dignitaries of the Chapel and school. The birds are beloved, and often appear in the local media. No Peacocks! is a humorous fictional adventure starring the real birds.
Every day, Harry, Phil, and Jim are fed birdseed. And one day, they decide they are sick of it. They storm out into the city streets (the birds do frequently escape the grounds) in search of pizza or Chinese takeout.
When told “No peacocks!” by the restaurant owner, the birds turn their eye to the school cafeteria, and their world famous mac ‘n’ cheese. A wonderful caper follows, involving some disguises and finagling the students to help pull off the mission—to crack in to the kitchen.
Illustrated in bold stylized art, No Peacocks! is a fun romp and read-aloud.
